Design lesson plan for primary children with two levels of ICT using the SAMR model integration.

The SAMR model provides a valuable framework for educators to think critically about integrating technology into their lessons. It stands for Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition, representing a progression in how deeply technology transforms learning experiences.

SAMR helps us move beyond simply replacing low-tech tools with digital ones. It encourages us to leverage technology's unique capabilities to create richer, more engaging, and effective learning opportunities.
Teachers play a central role in using SAMR effectively. They need to understand the different levels and thoughtfully select technologies that truly enhance learning objectives. This might involve using technology to allow students to collaborate on projects across borders (Modification), or even having students create their own interactive simulations (Redefinition).

The SAMR model can be used for both planning and reflection. When planning lessons, teachers can consider:

  • Substitution: Can technology simply replace a low-tech tool (e.g., using a digital worksheet instead of a paper one)?
  • Augmentation: Does the technology add some value, but not fundamentally change the task (e.g., using a whiteboard app with annotation features)?
  • Modification: Does technology significantly change the task, allowing for new learning possibilities (e.g., students creating stop-motion animations to explain a scientific concept)?
  • Redefinition: Does technology redefine the task entirely, creating completely new learning experiences (e.g., students using VR to virtually explore historical sites)?

Lesson no:1

Teacher name: Pelden Wangmo

Subject: Social studies

Topic: Weather

Class: IV

Time:45 mins

Teaching learning materials:video link,images

ICT models: SAMR model

Previous knowledge: they know about the four seasons

Lesson objective

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

define weather in their own words with different weather conditions accurately after teachers explanation

write at least two description for different weather conditions correctly after watching the video

apply their knowledge in interpreting the daily weather conditions accurately after completion of lesson

Lesson introduction(5 Minutes)

Start the lesson by asking students about seasons. Have them share their knowledge and experiences.

Use visuals below to show different seasons and ask them to describe what they see.

Lesson Development

After showing the picture, explain that we are going to learn about weather. Also Mention that weather and seasons are related. Teach them the difference between season and weather.

Describe different weather conditions and for further understanding, let them watch this video The Weather - Science for Kids | @PrimaryWorld

Activity 1 (15 minutes)-individual activity

Describing weather conditions

After watching the video, let them write at least two descriptions on different weather conditions.(sunny, snowy, rainy and cloudy)

Guide them if they face any difficulties.

Activity 2 (15 minutes) Group Activity

Riddle Quiz

Firstly the teacher will divide the students into five different groups. The teacher will conduct a riddle quiz among the groups. The group that answers first and correctly will be given points. The activity will be conducted for 15 minutes.

Riddle quiz

Follow up activity

The teacher will let students draw their favorite weather condition with few instructions.

Closure

The teacher will close the lesson with an exit ticket. They will be asked to write what they found interesting and what they are not really clear about.
